This month we will be participating in a One Day Milk Test with Jinx and Cassy O'.

Why?

We chose to take part in this testing in order to determine not only what our girls are producing, but also to try and gain milk stars.

What is it?

The One Day Milk test is a test that takes place over the course of two days. There are three total milkings and each milking the milk is weighed, sampled, and eventually sent to a lab for testing. The testing allows us to see the butterfat content as well as the protein content of our milk, which differs for each goat. Weighing the milk allows us to determine exactly how much each doe is producing. What is a milk star?

Milk Stars are used by ADGA to show does that are capable of production. Stars are gained during milk tests, and are determined by pounds of milk, days in milk, and how much butterfat there is.

Although we have done a One Day test in the past, it has been a few years, so we are looking forward to doing it again! Check back in at the end of the month to see our results!
